Smithtown Youth Bureau Letter Writing Contest to Thank Military Heroes

The Town of Smithtown Youth Bureau has organized a letter-writing campaign for students to write letters of thanks to active military service members, veterans and first responders.  The contest is open to students who attend school (K-12th) within the Town of Smithtown (Kings Park, Commack, Smithtown and Hauppauge school districts). The competition will be subdivided into three groups by grade level: K-4, 5-8, and 9-12 and letters will be judged based on various criteria, such as content and sentiment by Town of Smithtown Youth Advisory Board members.

 Not only will all letters of personal thanks to military and service heroes be mailed, but it is the goal of the campaign that young people take away a better of awareness of the contributions and sacrifice of our nation’s service heroes.  Letters can be handwritten or typed and mailed or emailed to the Smithtown Youth Bureau and received no later than February 22nd.  Smithtown Youth Bureau, 161 E. Main Street, Smithtown NY 11787 or youthb@tosgov.com.   Only the student’s first name should be on the actual letter, but all submissions must be accompanied by the following information; the student’s name, address, email, school, grade and age.
 Winners of the contest will be formally recognized at the Youth Bureau’s Global Youth Service Day event on April 16th at the Smithtown Landing Country Club.  In addition to announcing the contest winners, this event will recognize student volunteer service and will offer an opportunity for the entire family to have breakfast together and do a community service project. Check the Youth Bureau site www.smithtownny.gov/youthbureau for further information, or contact at 631-360-7595 or youthb@tosgov.com
