Summer In The City: Head To Discovery Times Square

September 23, 2016

Make a "Summer In The City" Bucket List this year! We are lucky to live just a quick car or train ride away from the greatest city in the world-- New York City!

CELEBRATE SUMMER WITH DISCOVERY TIMES SQUARE

Ranked among the top five most-visited museums in New York City, Discovery Times Square offers visitors educational and immersive exhibit experiences centered around history, science, art and entertainment.

To kick off the start of summer, we went to Discovery Times Square to check out all three of their awesome exhibits.

First we went to The Viking Exhibition. There was so much to learn about the culture and history of the Vikings that we were mesmerized.
Artifacts on display taught us about Viking families and community, religion, travel, trade, aristocracy and more. We learned about Norse craftsmanship, the power of their mythology, and the symbolism of their ships. The exhibit is very interactive, which made the experience even better and kept the interest of everyone in our group.  There were ships, stones, swords, masks, and more!

So much to see and do! The Viking Exhibition was educational and fun. The kids loved reading and listening to the Viking myths and stories. They gave the exhibit two thumbs up!

Next up was Body Worlds, which was my personal favorite.
Body Worlds: The original human anatomy exhibit shows the science and splendor of the human body, and deconstructs its form and function through the trailblazing science of Plastination invented by anatomist, Dr. Gunther von Hagens. The exhibit features more than 200 Plastinated specimens that feature the various systems of the body. It really was fascinating to learn about and see so much of the human body. It was great to be able to actually show my children things that they had learned about in science this year. Just seeing the differences in people were amazing and we spent a lot of time reading and watching the video clips throughout the exhibit. Our favorites were the horseback rider and the poker scene-- both fantastic! This exhibit is a great one for older kids.  My boys are 12 years old and they both really enjoyed it.

Last but not least, Star Wars and the Power of Costume: The Exhibition was incredible!
Featuring over 70 original costumes and dozens of artifacts from all seven Star Wars films, this exciting exhibition showcased costumes from Darth Vader and C-3PO, to Princess Leia to Jabba the Hutt, and everything in between. The costumes were truly amazing. Every room we walked into was more exciting than the next-- I took a ridiculous amount of pictures! For Star Wars fans, this exhibit is not to be missed!

Discovery Times Square is a must see. Put it on the top of your "Summer In The City" Bucket List this year!
