As a mom of two young boys, everything in our life seems to revolve around trucks, trains, cars, dinosaurs, and all things boy! We spend the majority of our day playing, reading, and learning new things, but we do enjoy snuggling up and watching TV together. There are so many shows out there to choose from, many of which do not teach good values or habits. As a family, we choose to avoid those as much as we can. I mean, who wants to teach their children at a young age to fight everyone, dislike others, or how to be a bully? No one should ever be mistreated, hurt, or made fun of because they are “different.” So needless to say, we were super excited to discover that Season 3 of Dinotrux was now on Netflix with 16 action-packed episodes.

DreamWorks Animation Television has combined two of our sons’ favorite things – trucks and dinosaurs – for a wonderful series of shows. The series, inspired by the award winning books by Chris Gall, tells relatable, heartfelt stories for every family. The characters are combinations of prehistoric dinosaurs and mechanical construction vehicles brought to life by amazing animation and astonishing detail. Each one possesses its own unique characteristics and they are all different shapes and sizes, just like each of us. The show's main characters are Ty, a gigantic Tyrannosaurus Trux, and his best friend Revvit, a tiny razor-sharp Reptool. They join forces with other Dinotrux and Reptools, in hopes of making the world better and taking down the D-Structs, the big, bad bully of the show. Each character, whether good or bad, have their own unique skills and qualities and see that they are stronger when they work as a team instead of letting their differences come between them.

We enjoyed that each show had a lesson tied in that very much resembles everyday life. There were of course bad guys, but the characters strive to work together to overcome their differences. It is a simple story for children really, but as a parent, has a much deeper meaning and lesson behind it. It stresses that one must always do the right thing, which sometimes takes making tough choices. A huge part of the storyline encourages that differences should not divide and no challenge is too difficult when you work as a team. Bravery, kindness, and team work play a huge part in the characters.

It is a major goal of mine as a parent to teach the importance of equality and that differences make us all unique. I never want my children to feel like they are not special. The world would be boring if every person were exactly alike. The show helps drive home the message that we should all embrace our differences and learn from them instead of punishing someone for being unique. I wish we all could see others like the Dinotrux, with no judgment for size, shape, or color, and to learn how to build friendships and work together as well as they do. Dinotrux is a wonderful show for kids and we cannot wait to catch up on a few more episodes!
