Smithtown Township’s Youth & Community Alliance Needs Volunteers for Special Committees

Smithtown, N.Y.-- The Township’s Youth & Community Alliance of Smithtown will be holding three (3) Special Committee Meetings in January 2017.  Concerned residents, community leaders, clergy, school district representatives, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, parents, college & high school students, as well as veterans, senior citizens and social & civic groups are invited to share their experience, knowledge and concern for their fellow residents.  If you want to take an active role in strengthening your community and addressing local problems, then the Youth & Community Alliance of Smithtown needs you!  
The following Youth & Community Alliance of Smithtownspecial committees will be meeting in January to begin strategizing for town-wide projects and activities.  All meetings will be held at the Town of Smithtown Horizons Center, Community Room, 161 E. Main Street in Smithtown.
Bullying/Cyberbullying Committee:   Monday, 1/9/17 at 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM (RSVP by 1/5/17
(Educate parents regarding bullying signs/symptoms to support their children.   Build youth resiliency in order to better manage conflict and stress, and coordinate peer support programs.)

Healthy Relationships Committee:   Wed., 1/18/17 at 7:15 PM – 8:15 PM (RSVP by 1/12/17
(Create social opportunities for quality family time.  Offer education, assistance and support for improving family and dating relationships.)

Substance Abuse Committee:  Monday, 1/23/17 at 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM (RSVP by 1/17/17
(Educate the Smithtown community regarding the dangers of, and provide environmental strategies to prevent and reduce youth alcohol and substance abuse.)

The Alliance encourages residents of Smithtown Township to employ all of their resources in a cooperative manner to strengthen communities, keep youth and families physically & emotionally healthy, safe and free of substance abuse.  Alliance members will not only help to strengthen all communities within Smithtown Township, but have opportunity for networking, leadership roles, meaningful use of free time,
quality references for college/employment, community service credit, as well as, professional and personal mentorship.
SAVE THE DATE!  -  In addition to these three (3) Special Committee meetings, the Youth & Community Alliance of Smithtown’s quarterly general membership meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Smithtown Library Main Building, 1 North Country Road in Smithtown, 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.   At this meeting, members of the Special Committees will present results of the January committee meetings to the alliance general membership, and move forward with town-wide group projects.
