Music can have an incredible impact on your life. I know listening to music always makes me happier! As a teacher in both general and special education, I have watched how music can change the mood and demeanor of a child in just minutes. This is what I believe are the Top 5 Reasons to expose your children to music as much as possible.
- Music Lowers Stress. Studies have shown that music decreases the level of stress hormones in your body. Kids today are definitely too stressed! Music can help them cope with difficult situations.
- Music Strengthens Learning and Memory. Think about it. How many songs have you memorized over the years? Listening to music is good exercise for your brain!
- Music Helps Kids Socialize. Being part of a musical group helps kids make friends! Working on something together gives them a common goal and something to enjoy with their peers. Kids have options join different singing or musical groups both at school and in the community.
- Music Lessons Help Kids Focus. Spending time learning an instrument or vocal training requires patience and concentration. Practicing both these skills can help increase the ability to focus.
- Music Boosts Confidence. Learning an instrument and improving as time goes on helps build a feeling of accomplishment. Performing on stage helps prepare kids for presentations, public speaking, and interviews in their adult life.
I can say from personal experience that music has changed my kids lives. They are teenagers now and they have benefitted from all of the reasons above.
